Clash between military, BIFF in Cotabato town eases - ABS CBN News

ALEOSAN – Tensions between the military and the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) at the Aleosan town in North Cotabato have eased.

Still, authorities remain on alert, closely guarding and securing the national highway after clashes began during the weekend at Sitio Tubak Habitat in Barangay Pagangan.

Early on Sunday morning, the military conducted clearing operations.

Although there are no more gunfire shots being heard between the military and the armed group, residents who fled their homes are still in evacuation centers.

The number of affected families rose to 656.

They are from barangays Pagangan, Bualan, Tapudok, and Dualing who were forced to leave after their local leaders advised them to find a safer place as members of the BIFF were spotted in their areas.

They already want to return to their homes, but the local government has yet to issue a go signal.

Some have complained that they have already run out of food.

Aleosan town Mayor Vicente Soropia said they are assessing the needs of the evacuees and will distribute relief goods anytime today.

He also requested the authorities to beef up security in the area.
