Drugs worth $46 million seized in Subic - Manila Channel

MANILA, Philippines – A gang of drug smugglers were arrested for attempting to traffic $46 million-worth of methamphetamine in a drug warehouse maintained by a syndicate headed by a Chinese national.

According to Chief Insp. Roque Merdegia, spokesman of PNP Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Force (Aidsotf), smugglers were caught on a house in Sta. Monica Subdivision in Subic, Zambales at 1:30 p.m.,

Six persons were loading drugs into a vehicle parked outside the warehouse.

"They were about to leave, actually. Luckily, we were able to catch them," Merdegia said.

During the search, the Philippine police found 200 kilograms (440 lbs) of the stimulant methamphetamine hydrochloride.

It was the largest haul of drugs seized in a single operation this year.

According Merdegia, the estimated street value of the drugs haul is in excess of two billion pesos (about $46 million).

The raid was a result of a joint investigation between Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority and the Bureau of Customs (BOC).
