PAGASA: TS Maring intensifies, may exit PAR Wednesday night - GMA News

Tropical Storm Maring (international name Trami) intensified further Tuesday night as it continued to move northwest, and may move out of the Philippine area of responsibility as early as Wednesday night, state weather forecasters said.

PAGASA, in its 11 p.m. advisory, also said Maring will continue to enhance the southwest monsoon "that will bring moderate to heavy rainshowers and thunderstorms over Luzon particularly over the western section."

As of 10 p.m., Maring was estimated to be 520 kms northeast of Itbayat, Batanes, with maximum winds of 105 kph near the center and gustiness of 135 kph.

It said Maring was moving northwest at 19 kph and is expected to be 430 km north of Itbayat, Batanes, outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility, by Wednesday night.

While no storm signals have been raised, PAGASA said Maring may bring rainfall of 10 to 40 mm per hour (heavy to torrential) within its 500-km diameter.

"Fishermen specially those using small seacrafts are advised not to venture out over the seaboards of Luzon due to the possible big waves generated by the enhanced southwest monsoon," PAGASA advised. — DVM, GMA News
